HOW DO I START A BULLET JOURNAL?

Starting a bullet journal can be quite overwhelming, as there are so many components to think about and you have to be willing to actually invest time into journaling. But have no fear, I'm here to assist you along your journey. Keep in in mind that bullet journals do not have to be set up a certain way, these are simply just tips so that you can be inspired to start a journal of your own that works for you.

MATERIALS

Instagram and Pinterest are known for having pages and posts full of professional journalists who have top notch, expensive materials. Having the most expensive tools resulting in the prettiest of journals is a common misconception. These materials can be useful or fun to use, but are by no means necessary. If you really want to start a bullet journal, then you will need:

  • A small notebook or journal
  • Pens and Pencils
  • Creativity
  • Motivation
Those are the four simple things. you can add materials as well such as pictures and stickers, ect., but if you just wish to start, then that is all you have to gather.

CREATING A SPREAD

A spread is a layout of a bullet journal that has various different sections to organize different activities and lists. All spreads are unique and different, but creating a spread from scratch can be hard without a little guidance. Take a look at Pinterest and view different spreads that other people have made, and modify them to your liking. Just have fun and start writing. Create the spread in your image. It should cater to your needs, and what you need to organize and keep track of in your life. The most common base of any spread is a calendar. Just take out your phone and copy the calendar from the current month into your bullet journal. Another common component is a sidebar with monthly goals that you wish to achieve. Have a section for notes as well. this basic template of components allows you to get in the mindset of working towards accomplishing something by the end of the month. Not everything has to be goal related in your journal either. sometimes its good to just have other fun pages in your book to create a more inviting spread, that motivates you to use your journal everyday. Some examples of fun pages you can add are a daily picture-based weather tracker for the month, or a vision board, where you put a collage of  pictures, art, and quotes to inspire you.

Spreads can be monthly, weekly, or even daily. There are no limitations, and you can organize the dates however you wish to, just do whatever it is that is effective for you! Happy journaling everyone!
